Decided I would do much more saltwater fishing this year than in previous years, so I got it going today by stopping by Belsan's bait shop, where he recommended white Shankas on offset Gamakatsu's. Went to the North River at the Driftway boat launch for about 2 hours and got numerous hits and landed two little schoolies. Several strikes at the Shankas but also on a Bomber topwater (red and white) and a Gulp! Mullet grub. Great start to the season and I'll be sure to remember than they bite best when the tide is low and incoming.

Went out on a cloudless day, about 70 degreeswith light wind to Houghton's Pond for the first time. Heard good things about it on this site and I was not disappointed. I was only out for about 2 - 2.5 hours fishing the woodsy side (as opposed to the beach side) and a Rooster Tail turned up a really healthy looking but a bit small largemouth. A few different pickerel followed the Rooster Tail too, they're all shallow at the moment and are ready to rumble if you're offering is convincing, I could imagine somebody with live bait would make a killing on the little guys.

There comes a time every year when the crappie bite at this pond turns on and the panfish are hopelessly addicted to anything thrown at them. Today was one of those days. Pulled out a slab on about 75% of my casts and some very respectable sizes too. Highly recommend anyone to come here (quick) with some crappie jigs or really anything, I was using a Mepps Aglia and killin em.

Went out today at 6 o'clock to Tack Factory Pond with a couple rods set up for trout. Sent my silver and red Lil Jake out wicked fah and the second it hit the water an absolute monster brook trout nailed it. On 4# Nanofil line, this was a fight to remember. Hauled her in, took a couple pictures, and let her go to fight another day. Only fish I caught in the hour I was there but she was a beauty.

Lure: Lil Jake (silver, red spot)
Weather: Overcast, around 50 degrees, no wind
Retrieve: Moderate, steady

Fished Norris Reservation in Norwell for about an hour and a half with an olive shad Rapala X-Rap. Was out for bass but ended up catching a pickerel, decent size, in some sunken brush.

Went fishing at a new spot, Little Long Pond in Plymouth. It's just across the street from Long Pond, but gets much less fishing pressure. No motorboats allowed, but it's so shallow you can wade out 50 feet from shore. I was swimming a green and blue grub through some lily pads when a lunker largemouth slammed it! It was pretty big, but couldn't weigh it, what a day to leave the scale at home. We also found a massive largemouth dead on the bottom of the pond, the thing was about 5 pounds or so. Overall, great fishing experience, I will be coming back.

My friend and I went down to Tack Factory Pond on a cloudy April day with a dozen shiners, 3 rods, and an ambition to kick some fishy butt. We left 17 black crappie more experienced. Great time.
