Sudbury Reservoir Fishing Report

A Saturday Morning Summer Something On The Sud.

Hit up the Sudbury Reservoir this morning at around 5:45am. Sunrise was at 5:15 so it was already clear as day by the time I headed out. Temps were in the mid 60's and very humid. First time I didn't have to bring my sweatshirt all year. It felt like summer.

Worked my way around some different areas with some nice cover and lily pads. Hit my first LMB after about 15 minutes on a weightless dark green senko on a 3/0 while testing out my main rig spooled for the first time ever with 30lb braid (no leader). Only 1lb 12oz, but not bad and a good start to the day.

Walked the shore for another 30-45 minutes with no luck in different spots. Found a nice shady spot with calm water, in a spot you couldn't get to with the normal water levels. Tossed out another dark green senko, and BAM!! the second it hit the water, didn't even have time to sink, hit a 2lb 10oz on the same reel as before.

I tried to take a pic of him next to my pole, but he kept jumping all around and wouldn't hold still, so instead of trying for another pic I just let him go. He looked and felt a lot bigger than 2.10, but hey, it's still early in the year.

Fished for another couple hours. Hit 3 more LMB. One on a popper, one more on a senko and final one on a red eye shad rattle trap.

Overall not a bad day. It really felt like summer fishing for the first time. The bass beds were still there, but mostly baron now, and you can really tell the vegetation is starting to grow underwater since most of my cranks came back covered in weeds.

Oh well, a pretty decent morning of shore fishing on the Sud.

  • Yeah mostly plastics but aem and I have observed big ones in the shallows feeding on baitfish so shallow in fact you could see the big bass's back swimming back n forth in the water chasing baitfish that is how aem got the 4lber he caught the day he was with me we kept throwing the senkos at him till he finally took it but I bet you could catch a huge one with a Kiva lol!

  • Mostly senkos, but have hit a few on a rebel top water frog. They are hitting in pretty shallow water.

  • Are all these fish being caught on Plastic or have any of them Larry's taken a shinner or anythimg else.......

  • Nice trip! Who is going to be the one to pull the 10lber from the Sud? It's only a matter of time!

  • I dont mind like everyone to enjoy good fishing as long as they put them back!ha ha shouldn't eat anything out of there anyway loaded with mercury still see theme out there with buckets full of kiva's and unlike you Muskie don't think they are using for bait ha ha but won't give up my spot only to those who come with ha ha!

  • Has to be the Pond of the Month. Nice job Badlarry putting this on the map.

  • This low water level at the Sud has been a god send my go to spot would not be accessible if water was at normal level decided to try it on a whim and it has been unbelievable!

  • The sud has been fantastic this year!I've couple over 4 and even some nice 3lb Sally's I fished this evening started at Marlboro side caught a number of 1-lbers lost a nice one then went to my go to spot for couple of casts 2nd cast hooked into a Lunker she was really pulling loosened up my drag she jumped a couple of times and then snap need to upgrade to braided tired of losing good fish wasn't a 6er but who knows could have been a 4-5lber bought this new line and it really sucks

  • Looks bigger than 2.10. Good picture or your scale is a little off. Nice fish.
